Message Disregarding the spikes as artifacts of the data processing rather than artifacts of resonances in engine operation, then the similarity of the shapes can be easily explained: the graphs are similar because the dyno graphs have similar shapes. ie. on our cars we always expect to see a dyno with a slowly sloping curve that steepens as it approaches peak torque, then flattens out or slightly drops from peak torque to redline. Since the graph is of the first derivative, then you are just looking at the slopes. So I expect the graph to have a moderate value at low-mid rpm, growing higher (because the hp curve gets steeper) towards peak torque, then dropping to zero or negative past peak torque.

I could for example predict this graph for a supercharged viper, would essentially be a horizontal line. Because I know the dyno graphs for a supercharged viper has pretty much flat torque to redline, with a constant slope hp line.

But it is interesting that for those 2 turbos for the peak rpm value to be similar and the width of the peak to be similar.
